Developing critical thinking tools for the Mediterranean Youth26.01.2022

Med Dialogue for Rights and Equality, an EU-funded programme aiming at supporting civil society working beyond borders in the Mediterranean region, is organizing its third Med Dialogue Leaders Bootcamp under the topic “developing critical thinking tools”. This Bootcamp, which is organized in partnership with the “Mediterranean Citizens´ Assembly Foundation” (FACM), takes place in Valencia (Spain) from January 29th to February 2nd, 2022.

Through a series of insight sessions and working groups, the objective of this Bootcamp is to equip 30 participants from the Euro-med space, with core skills around critical-thinking, problem-assessment and fact-checking.  At the same time, they will be invited to perform open-mindedness, and challenge stereotypes, propaganda and misinformation. Communicating effectively and exchanging with others are also at the core of the training sessions.

Participants will have as well the opportunity to meet local organisations namely: the “Plataforma de asociaciones de familiares víctimas del Franquismo” which is a federation of associations of victims’ relatives of Francoism buried in the different graves of Paterna, or “The World Sustainable Urban Food Centre” (CEMAS) which is a joint initiative between Valencia City Council and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, created to address the challenges facing cities in food and urban consumption, or the Las Naves de València urban innovation center.

In margin of the Bootcamp, a public debate will be held under the topic “Closing the gap: From activism and social engagement to politics” on February 1st , 2022 at 7 pm at “La Fábrica de Hielo”. This debate aims at reviewing experiences of reforming politics from society, looking at countries and cities on both shores of the Mediterranean.

It is recalled that the main expected result of this Bootcamp is to develop the framework of a collective common action that emerge from joint elaborations, using the newly acquired skills and knowledge with the aim of promoting an advocacy and awareness-raising action involving all Young Leaders. The common action shall then take place simultaneously in the Young Leaders’ hometowns/regions within two months from the completion of the Bootcamp.
